Despite all the pathetic compilations over the last few years, I have kept up hope. Finally, that hope is satisfied in the form of this wonderful album.
The album consists of songs which actually fall into the category of “music” (that long forgotten concept), songs which have been immortalised by the rendition of great artists…and you don’t have to be over fifty years old to enjoy them. That’s because you have John Denver singing “Leaving On A Jet Plane”, followed by Willie Nelson and “Always On My Mind”.
Next, you have Doris Day singing the immortal “Que Sera Sera”, Tammy Wynette with her soulful “Stand By Your Man”. There is the usual allowance to romance with Bobby Vinton’s “Sealed With A Kiss”, Roy Orbison’s “Only The Lonely” and finally, the cutest song of the lot - Patti Page’s version of “How Much Is That Doggie”.
There is little to fault with this album - it’s soothing, hummable, has good songs and some great names. So, lie back, drink that hot chocolate, cuddle up next to someone and listen to these numbers.
