After a year of been-there, done-that dance albums, it’s refreshing to find one that actually delivers. Sonique’s name will be familiar to all those who grooved to the smash hit, “It Feels So Good”, propelling to the top of dance charts all over the world, and her debut album, “Hear My Cry”, is certain to win her even more fans. While the album is a mix of dance and R&B (more the former than the latter), Sonique’s distinctive voice brings depth and some unusual maturity to the vocals.
“It Feels So Good” and “I Put A Spell On You”, the first two tracks, are dance numbers, fuelled by uptempo beats and synthesized backgrounds. “Move Closer” is a slow, moody romantic tune, while, “Hear My Cry”, the title track, is a funky mix, while “Sky” is another fast dancenumber. “Are You Ready?” and “Cold And Lonely” tend to be a little annoying, but the remainder of the tracks are good enough to make buying this album worth your while.
