Formerly Ginger Spice, Geri Haliwell now seems to be trying to make it on her own - and the success of “Schizophonic”, her first solo album, seems to suggest that the former Spice Girl might actually have it in her to become another diva. But sales figures are often misleading - “Schizophonic” is an average album, with only a few numbers that actually make it worth the price tag.
Of all the tracks released as videos, “Look At Me” is probably the best, both for its glitzy 60s feel, and for the lyrics themselves - it’s not too hard to hear Geri trying to separate herself from the collective hysteria of the Spice Girls phenomenon. Of the remainder, “Bag It Up” has a nice dance feel to it, while “Lift Me Up” is disappointing and “Mi Chico Latino” is simply silly. Unless you’re a Spice Girls fan, “Schizophonic” is probably better left on the shelf for a while…
